Basic.

A coffee table for all.

BASIC. is a coffee table that combines clean geometric shapes with natural materials. I explored and embrace the uniqueness and richness of texture, in the solid wood and in the resin, with the pureness of the shape to establish a dialogue between both elements - material and form.

Ideation

THE CREATIVE PHASE

To choose a form, I tried different ideas and concepts. Once my concept formulation was done, I then shifted to Form formulation. I chose this form because I think it depicts the kind of furniture I would like to work in.

Introduction

THE SELECTION PROCESS

To give a background, we first started the assignment by understanding some designers. Then we were told to select words that depict us or share the same style. I chose-

Minimalistic   Natural  Balanced   Concept   Abstract

To make a selection of the product category, I wanted to make it very personal. I love coffee and that's why I chose coffee table furniture pieces.

Materials

Why this specific materials?

I wanted to show naturalness in my product. That can be shown through Wood. The next thing I found out was wood wastes are usually generated within the furniture manufacturing companies as the result of the technological process: solid wood offcuts, sawdust, and shavings. Although Sawdust and Shavings can be made into man-made wood, Solid wood offcuts were just waste.

After studying and ideating, I got the idea of making it again a block by mixing Resin into the product. Epoxy resin is suitable for sealing wood as well as waterproofing it. Some examples of this application include sealing a tabletop, wooden boards in the kitchen, or furniture.

About the product

How it defines me?
  • The Left side of the product is BALANCED on one leg which is A cylindrical piece of wood and the sphere. Gives a sense of balancing elements

  • The other side of the product stands on two thin metal pipes, which shows MINIMALISTIC behavior in the product.

  • As I have merged a piece of wood with resin, the wood becomes a NATURAL formation for the product.

  • In this product, ABSTRACT furniture reimagines ordinary furniture in compelling and unexpected ways.

So, making a CONCEPTUAL idea and working with the same was a fun process.

INTERDEPENDENCE

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN

As I was making the coffee table, I realized that most of the time coffee is a combination of milk and coffee. My table has half part of resin- White color Represents milk and the wood color represents coffee beans.
